she says. “I averaged a sale a day for 30 days, and I made $16,000 in one month.” The next month, Jeannie’s success continued, and she doubled her income from the first month, bringing in $30,000. Today, Jeannie makes an average of $40,000 each month.
Thanks to her success, Jeannie is no longer plagued by constant financial worries. Instead, she enjoys financial freedom. “For me, the biggest change is having money for all the little things in life that can drive you crazy,” Jeannie says. “Some months, we were lucky to have money to buy groceries, let alone money to put gas in the car with today’s prices. It’s having money for all the little things you neglect-like taking the kids to the dentist or the dogs to the vet-that’s made the biggest change in our lives.”
Although Jeannie is always careful not to be extravagant, she recently purchased a new vehicle, and she will have her home paid off in matter of months. She has enough money in savings to cover a year’s worth of expenses, and she tithes a portion of her income to her church.
Jeannie’s success also allows her to continue her children’s educations at home. Each day, she guides a 17-year-old, 12-year-old, and nine-year-old through their lessons. All the while, her business runs virtually on autopilot.
Looking back on her journey over the past year, Jeannie is amazed by how different her life is now. “It’s incredible how completely our lives have changed since last winter,” says Jeannie. “My life has been totally transformed, and my goal now is to help as many people as I can to become successful, too. When that happens and we all work together, everyone wins.”
enough. For Jeannie, this scenario is all too familiar. She vividly recalls the sensation of teetering on the edge of a slippery financial slope and the constant worry that the next check, debit, or bill payment would send her plunging over the edge.
Between her small income and the monthly child-support payments she received from her separated husband, Jeannie brought in just enough money to keep her head above water. But she was caught unprepared last winter when life took an unexpected turn for the worse. “My husband hurt his back at work, and since he couldn’t work there was no child support money coming in,” says Jeannie. “That made things extremely tight in our home.”
Realizing that she needed to make up the lost income, Jeannie, a stay-at-home mom who home-schools the youngest three of her five children, made the difficult decision to pursue a job outside of the home.Although she hated the thought of placing her children in public schools; financially, she had no other option. “It looked like our lives were going to change dramatically at that point,”
Jeannie recalls. Little did she realize just how accurate her prediction really was.
During this crossroads, Jeannie tried to secure a job interview but couldn’t get a callback. Around the same time, she also received an email from a friend who was recovering from brain surgery. “I opened her email to see how she was doing,” says Jeannie. “Inside, there was a link to an introductory movie . . ..”
It is a direct sales and marketing company offering computer software and educational books over the Internet. The company held a pre-launch in January of 2007 and officially launched one month later.
“I had some previous experience with home businesses, but most of my prior opportunities had been nutritionally based,” says Jeannie. Since she had already made the decision to pursue employment outside the home, Jeannie wasn’t sure it was the right time to become involved with another direct sales business. Once she viewed the introductory movie, however, she was so impressed that she completely changed her mind.
“This company has a movie presentation that does most the work and all the selling for you,” she says. “It kicks out emails only to people who are truly interested in the business, and it’s very automated. This was a great fit for me because I love to help people and I love to share things, but I didn’t want to have to sell people on things.”
Jeannie was so energized about the system that she called off her job hunt. “After I started, I finally had someone call about a job interview. I called them back and told them I had found another opportunity,” says Jeannie. “This seemed like a good fit, and I focused on it and decided this was really going to be it.”
Jeannie signed up on February 27 and made her first sale on March 16. “I was so pleased with that first sale,” she says. “When I started, my goal was to make one sale per month.” But once Jeannie made her initial sale, her business exploded. “Over the next 30 days, there were more and more sales,”
